I have also tried this with a DisplayPort -> HDMI adaptor on a different screen - no output. I noticed my new monitor has a DisplayPort 1.2 enable/disable option, whatever difference that makes, but still no output with DP 1.2 disabled. I just tried a reset to defaults - no luck.Īt first I thought it might be that the monitor wasn't powering up in time to get the output but even after a reboot when the screen has been powered on there is still no output at boot until the grey Windows user loading screen appears. This Dell Optiplex is completely fine so I don't want to replace it. I would expect it's an issue for many machines now that are 6-8 years old where you don't connect over VGA and when DisplayPort/HDMI output wasn't as common perhaps.

Is that likely to make any difference?ĭoes anyone happen to know a trick that might be able to get BIOS/POST and boot menus to display over DisplayPort? The only thing I can think of is possibly changing it from legacy boot mode and re-building as UEFI. I can't see any setting in the BIOS to change the primary output to DisplayPort either. However the thing I have found that doesn't work is I don't get output of the BIOS/POST screen and grub menu over DisplayPort.Ĭonnecting via VGA it still works, so I'm guessing it initialises the DisplayPort connection later in the boot process. I used to connect the old monitor using VGA, it worked, now connecting the new monitor over DisplayPort, also works. Just bought a new monitor to connect to our old Dell Optiplex 790 SFF 790 uSFF machine we have in the study.
